On 13 November, the meeting of BRICS Ministers of Science, Technology and Innovation will take place via videoconference, as part of the Russian BRICS Chairmanship.
The event will be attended by Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil Marcos Pontes, Union Minister, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Science and Technology, Earth Sciences of India Dr Harsh Vardhan, First Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China Huang Wei and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology of South Africa Dr Bonginkosi Emmanuel Nzimande.
The officials will discuss matters related to updating BRICS cooperation priorities regarding science, technology and innovation (STI), including in the context of post-COVID recovery.
They are expected to approve a report on the specialist BRICS working groups in 2019‒2020, including the contest for science and research projects on COVID-19, the BRICS STI Steering Committee, as well as the report on five years of cooperation under the BRICS Memorandum of Understanding on STI. The meeting will end with the signing of the BRICS STI Declaration 2020 and the adoption of an events calendar for 2020‒2021.
