On 12 August, a Meeting of BRICS Anti-Drug Working Group took place via video conference under the Chairmanship of the Russian Federation.
Heads of the relevant units of BRICS specialised agencies discussed the situation with drug trafficking in the five countries, international and regional trends relating to the trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, as well as the impact of various internal and external factors. The participants reaffirmed their shared commitment to fighting the global threat posed by drug trafficking, their readiness to ensure closer cooperation among the BRICS law enforcement agencies and the need to preserve the current international drug control system.
The experts expressed concern about the use of modern technologies and technical means for illicit drug-related activities, as well as money laundering of proceeds from drug trafficking using online payment systems and crypto currencies.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of a joint communique.
